ZAMTEL AND ZOONA PARTNER TO BOOST ACCESS TO DIGITAL FINANCE


  • Partnership is a major step towards attaining financial inclusion and moving towards a cashless society in light of Covid-19
  • The development brings on board a combined presence of over 800 locations countrywide.
  • LUSAKA, 13th May 2020 - Zamtel has partnered with leading payment services provider Zoona Zambia in a relationship that will enable Zamtel customers access to a variety of mobile money services at Zoona outlets across the country.

     

    The partnership which has seen the integration of Zamtel Mobile Money and Zoona platforms will support the provision of digital financial services for Zamtel customers at any of the Zoona kiosks and retail stores countrywide.

    As a result of the partnership, Zamtel customers can also buy talk time, pay for utilities and from the over 800 Zoona locations thereby reducing the need to make cash payments and help fight the spread of Covid-19.

    Zamtel Head of Corporate Affairs and Government Relations Reuben Kamanga has hailed the partnership stating that Zamtel customers now have new locations to access mobile money services in addition to the existing ones.

    Mr Kamanga said the partnership speaks to Government’s desire to expand mobile money services to the unbanked population which is in line with the National Financial Inclusion Strategy.

    “For us at Zamtel, access to digital financial services is our priority and our desire is make these services accessible to all corners of this country. We are confident that millions of Zambians will now start enjoying these services as they are accessible in all parts of the country.” Mr. Kamanga stressed.

    “We believe that financial inclusion for all Zambians can only be achieved through partnerships with various stakeholders and we are therefore partnering with Zoona so that our customers can access Mobile Money services in the 800 outlets in addition to our existing footprint across the country,” he said.

    Mr. Kamanga added that using Mobile Money is one of the ways people can avoid contracting Covid-19 as customers can transact without using physical cash.

    Meanwhile, Zoona Zambia Managing Director Misozi Mkandawire-Bukali stated that Zoona was excited to have partnered with Zamtel in pushing the financial inclusion agenda.

    “We are very excited to announce this partnership. These are two great businesses striving to bring safe, reliable and improved digital financial services to Zambia. This partnership supports Zoona’s interoperable mission to enable its existing and potential customers access to a wide selection of financial products all in one convenient location,” Misozi Mkandawire-Bukali said.

    “The addition of Zamtel K products and services to Zoona’s already diverse and ever-expanding financial services offering marks another great milestone in Zoona’s drive to become the best interoperable distribution network in Zambia,” she added.
